St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore’s mission is to help people in the Baltimore area who are facing hunger, homelessness, and poverty. They’re one of the largest affiliate members of the St. Vincent de Paul society and have 14 locations across Baltimore city and county in the United States.
They give folks a hand up and help them get back on their feet with homeless shelters, soup kitchens, food banks, rapid rehousing, short-term housing, long-term rehousing, and veteran services.
Each year, St. Vincent de Paul serves over a million meals, provides more than 50,000 nights of shelter, and helps thousands of individuals and families find housing and jobs.
IT Manager Jason Ledney didn’t exactly have a solid cybersecurity plan to work with before Phishing Tackle came on board. In his own words, it was kind of like the “wild West.”
Before rolling out formal training for the staff, Jason noticed that employees didn’t really have the knowledge they needed to spot dodgy emails or scams. It was clear they needed some help in the cybersecurity department.
Phishing Tackle’s training made all the difference.
Phishing Tackle’s training has been an ongoing tool to remind staff how to look out for suspicious emails and links. Thanks to their training, the team doesn’t deal with real-time cyber threats. But if someone slips up and clicks something they shouldn’t, it’s easy to give them additional training to keep it from happening again. Over time, their click rate has dropped from 30-40% to 20-30%.
But they took it a step further. Jason noticed that staff have been able to effectively apply the training in real-world situations outside of the office, too.
These days, just about anywhere you park your car in Baltimore, you’ll spot marking meters powered by QR codes nearby. One of the employees was out looking for a parking spot when they noticed a QR code that immediately seemed fishy. The way it was tilted just didn’t sit right. And with Quishing (QR code phishing) on the rise, everything they’d learned from Phishing Tackle alerted them to a possible scam.
Being able to take what they learned in training and spot it out in the real world not only made the lessons feel more practical, it also helped the information stick with the staff.
Finally, one of Jason’s favourite things is how Phishing Tackle takes care of everything. Now, he just has a monthly or quarterly meeting to review the reports and make any necessary adjustments. Phishing Tackle handles the rest. In his words, “the juice is worth the squeeze.”

Constant support
Jason says that working with the Phishing Tackle team has been a walk in the park, and the support team have always been responsive and helpful. Phishing Tackle has helped his team tackle cybersecurity so they can focus on helping their communities.

Value for money
Phishing Tackle has been a great value for money for Jason and everyone in the organisation. As a nonprofit relying on grants, every dollar has to count, and be accounted for. Compared to similar platforms, Phishing Tackle meets their business goals without breaking the bank.

Minimal effort
With Phishing Tackle, Jason spends just a couple of hours a month working in the platform. It’s mostly set-and-forget! He checks the reports, has occasional training sessions, and touches base with the team to discuss the next steps.

Time saver
With staff well-trained, Jason no longer has to address constant security issues or spend hours dealing with threats. His team is well-equipped to spot phishing attempts and avoid potentially devastating security risks.
