CodeBase’s main mission is supporting tech startups, but they’re expanding their reach to the entire startup ecosystem across Scotland. They're creating a space where entrepreneurs can find community, access education, build networks, and launch their new businesses as smoothly as possible.
They've supported over 2,000 startups, connecting founders and their teams with governments, local authorities, corporations, investors, and academia to help them thrive. By breaking down barriers for startup founders, speeding up their growth, and offering SMEs the support they need to scale, CodeBase is helping build a healthier, wealthier, and more sustainable society.
But with their network rapidly expanding, cyber threats have become a larger concern. CodeBase’s IT team is a one-woman show led by IT manager, Debbie Baird, who noticed a major gap in formal cybersecurity training across the company.
Without a formal training system in place, she was limited to sending out the occasional email warning employees to be aware of scams, with a few tips to help spot them. If anything fishy-looking came in, Debbie would be called in to check it out. And while she was always happy to double-check suspicious emails, the extra work was piling up, keeping her from more important tasks.
They needed a better way to educate staff on how to spot scams, what to do if they found one, and free up Debbie’s time to focus on what she does best. That’s where Phishing Tackle came in.
Phishing Tackle’s training included engaging quizzes that took just 2 minutes of the staff’s day. Debbie noticed how quickly they would jump on the newest training because they were so easy and fun. The employees were eager to get in on a little healthy competition, striving to see who could finish first and score the highest. Debbie says she even gets complaints if there’s no quiz that month! Safe to say, the training has been a hit.
The Phishing Tackle dashboard lets Debbie track who’s staying on top of their training, who might be falling behind, and who could use a bit more support. This way, she can tailor the training, trying out different videos to help everyone learn more effectively.
The training has been so effective for CodeBase’s staff that their Click-Prone® Score has dropped to just one click a month – if that! Plus, it’s brought the staff closer together, working as a team to watch out for scam emails and warning each other when they spot one.

How Phishing Tackle helped CodeBase %%stay safe%% against scammers

Ongoing education
With monthly training sessions, the information stays fresh in staff’s minds. This keeps them sharp, ready to spot any potential threats, and always one step ahead of cybercriminals.

Fast and effective training
Each training video is only a couple of minutes long, so staff can get them done and dusted in no time. The bite-sized format ensures they absorb important information quickly, making the training both efficient and effective.

Increase in staff confidence
Thanks to Phishing Tackle’s training, staff now know exactly what to look for in suspicious emails, and falling for scams is a thing of the past. Now, the only emails Debbie gets from staff about cyber threats are all about their latest scam-spotting wins!

Time saver
Aside from freeing up Debbie’s time to focus on other tasks, Phishing Tackle’s dashboard makes it quick and easy for her to manage tests and simulations. With the metrics she gathers from the platform, Debbie has proof of their progress, which streamlines the process of achieving a Cyber Essentials accreditation – normally a time-consuming ordeal.
